rojak rocks. @ 9:22 p.m. on 30 September 2006

And who said singapore productions aren't intellectually stimulating? Remembered when some guy's comment that got published in Sraits Times IN. Said sth like singapore productions are not creative, talks about superficial issues and etc.

All I wanted to do was to tell the guy to open up his eyes and see why these issues are prevalent in Singapore's context. Kiasu, who isn't? It is stereotypical but it hits bullseye.

小孩不笨2 is really making me laugh like no tmr. It laments Singapore's education, stereotype parents, confused students, BGRs. Everything. It may have exaggerated most of the stuff, but they're nonetheless truths. More importantly, it looks like only we can understand. Translations won't work well.

Sometimes, I really appreciate our mixed culture. It's so mixed, the mixed cultures belongs to us now. Afterall, it's also us who started making ROJAK. =) Of course, rojak tastes good =)

more n more jiehan-s @ 1:37 a.m. on 30 September 2006

I'm getting freaked out. There's so many jiehan in this world. Out of my expectations. Of course, there are even more daryls, michaels and etc out there.

But JIEHAN is wulu okay.

I logged in friendster for the 1st time this month, and it looks like a JIEHAN has viewed me. From HCINCC.

whatever man. next time i shall name my son sth special that no one has. Not like : "Darrell Mark Leong" with 3 names that people have. Maybe sth like "Cai de fo" that no one sane in this world will give their children.

That sounds like a good name but has determined the fate that thou shalt be a monk. Looks like i have to try alternatives again. Afterall, there's 5000 chinese words with more to come. And if i'd like a permutation of 2.

5000P2 = 24 995 000

I would pity anyone who happens to be my children in the future.

cpu ki qia sooner or later @ 8:32 p.m. on 28 September 2006

Processor, memory may marry in future computers

On Tuesday, Intel showed off an 80-core processor at its developer forum taking place in San Francisco this week and one of the prominent features of the chip is that each core is connected directly to a 256MB memory chip through a technology called Through Silicon Vias, or TSV.

Wedding memory directly to the processor would have huge performance benefits. Currently, memory and the processor in Intel-based computers exchange data through a memory controller, which moves at a far slower rate than the processor. It's one of the big bottlenecks in computer performance. TSV, which displaces the memory controller, would shuttle data far quicker.

The processor cores are not restricted to getting memory from the chip wedded to it, added Rattner. The cores are connected to each other through high-speed links controlled by a router integrated into each core. Overall, the prototype 80-core chip has an aggregate memory bandwidth of 1 terabyte per second, meaning that it can shift a trillion bytes per second.

Engineers would also have to devise packages that would let the processor and memory live together. The processor typically generates more heat than the memory, which is one of the factors that would have to be considered. Although it doesn't get many headlines, packaging design is a huge challenge for chipmakers.

obtained from: Zdnet

Haiz. No wonder so long ago people already say, your cpu no matter how many upgrades, within 10 years will ki qia[die]. I got my cpu at the age of IDE hard drives, now got SATA II. Motherboard not compatible with new graphics card. Now processor also kena merged with dram. After army come out, can totally change entire cpu that will include yet another new OS by probably microsoft again. I can't help it but, microsoft does have an edge on OS right now. And it probably still will go on for the next at least 10 odd years.

rested well and over rested @ 7:38 p.m. on 28 September 2006

Mugging effectiveness = 0%

Currently, I have not went through any notes that i've picked up or done extra revision.

Maybe it's time I await all gods and deities from everywhere to bless me from head to toe that the paper is easy or I absorb everything the day before the examinations.

I still have the weekend, but I know more than well that it will pass in a while.

Good thing I still can process my stuff properly on tuesday [biology paper], since I dont take bio. In any case, I dont need to score very high for physics and chemistry for my A1. Just need 60% for physics and 67% for chemistry. So let's hope it's not that difficult.

dramas arh dramas @ 10:19 p.m. on 24 September 2006

I'm getting fed up =( More and more beautiful shows during my exam period. It's like super fedup-ish la.

First liao2 zhai1, I had to like force myself not to watch the 1st episode cos i ought to study for exams, sleep early and limit myself. Then thursday, got glued to the tv and there I was immersing myself with the so obvious foreshadowing yet wanting to catching the way it is.

Then now got the oct 9th one... Haiz... On the 2nd week of exams... Some korean drama serial again...

And Singapore was told during the period of IMF, that we don't exhibit enough of our culture to the outside countries, no dramas no this not that. But I need to say hor, singlish everyone can understand meh? You joke here joke there inside our drama serial at this hor add that hor u translate then not even funny liao mah. Already lose the essence of singlish. Like you cant possibly translate xiao hai bu ben into jap, they wun even laugh. Although i admit the translation of la bi xiao xin was great.

But arh, we too unique in terms of culture, tv and language le la. Cannot help de lor. Plus the quality, i say myself also not nice. Only 1997 drama serials went to china, then zoe tay and fann wong now v famous there. Cos all jap occupation dramas mah. I also like a lot =) Should repeat telecast those that we forgot... Not jus da chang jin dunno how many times lo =)

yup yup

Yah, now u noe i will cut botak after my exams =)

image change @ 9:50 p.m. on 23 September 2006

Hmmm... Happened twice this year didn't it? When I never touched it down the 1 year 9 months of blogging.

Yeah yeah, 1st was image change, now it's another image change with a few tidying up to make it look, sleaker? Hopefully this does look nicer.

Special thanks to Zhenyang for the image. And right now I'm getting spammed by probably some cousin of his. Or probably Lim Zhenyang has nothing to do for once and started spamming. Unfortunately, the contact has been blocked by me for the time being while i continue with this post.

I must say it's quite nice. At least we dont have the tagboard somewhere weird. And of course, great macromedia/photoshop work by zhenyang. I wouldn't have the time to do all these filters and stuff. Of course I do not have 3 lovely images.

Since it's a new start, lets have a game. First, find out the 3 words on the bottom right. It wont take you long if you know where to look.
Second, tell me the language it is in.
Last but not least, tell me the translation in english =)

Hmm... I don't know how this will benefit you, maybe you will be the 1st to see my botak photo.

Dars Bitter Chocolate @ 6:00 p.m. on 22 September 2006

Looks great, taste alright =)

Yeah it definitely looks good, like what ronald has said, the design itself shows how japanese put in effort into marketing. The chocolate itself doesn't taste too bad, but it lacks the bitter that I would yearn for.

There has been research and information collated by scientists that chocolate may NOT be the cause of your weight increase afterall. So until they prove it, girls should gorge themselves with all the chocolate they like =)

Word of the month. @ 3:48 p.m. on 19 September 2006

The over-spammed cheemology word of the month.

Hiatus [Noun]:
An interval during which continuity is suspended

Obtained from Answers.com

Supposedly 1st used by studentssketchpad.blogspot.com in the temporary suspension of their entries due to their promos.

Recently seen by /me as over spammed, over used word of the month. Commonly used to describe a temporary self-suspension from blogging due to the upcoming exam period.

Just thought it was funny. Saw the word 3 times in 3 different blogs. And I always thought hiatus was merely a pause. Now it's a short period of time.

the short day @ 4:26 p.m. on 16 September 2006

I gave up on this chinesey post I wanted to do for Mdm Xu. First, it's physically and mentally tiring. 2nd she's not worth my time typing in chinese.

Before I show you some stuff i did for an alternative, I'll talk about philwind+philyouth concert today in SCH. The best concert I've attended, seeing that i've never went for an SSO concert before. Intonation was near perfect. The concert was all in all wonderful with little screw ups. That's what you get when you combine the elites members. You simply get your soul sucked into the realm of music and enjoy every moment of it. At times when you're finally yourself, you get stunned by whatever you're seeing. At the very split second the conductor drops his baton, you clap as loud as you could. It's like the lala-land you've never been to, and finally got the opportunity to enjoy it.

Well, not to say that our dear Tan Khaiboon koped 3 Saxophone solos in the 4 or 5 pieces that Philyouth played.

The best is nowhere but in my brain, I'll never forgot this concert which left me with little to criticise and a lot of compliments.

Oh in addition, if you happen to be in far east or Raffles City, be sure to check out Chippy British Take Away. The BBF[Beer Battered Fish] is simply heavenly. I'm gonna try the fried Mars Bars some day.

we bo chap @ 4:25 p.m. on 15 September 2006

Returning to Asia for the first time since 1997, the International Monetary Fund and World Bank open their annual gathering in Singapore next Tuesday and Wednesday. Normally held in Washington, the meeting is held every third year outside the U.S. capital.

This is the biggest international conference that Singapore has ever hosted, and the city-state has undergone elaborate preparations, particularly in regards to security. The Suntec convention center is surrounded by 8-foot fences topped with razor wire, and armed Gurkha guards stand at attention at key sites throughout the city.

Singapore has banned outdoor protests during the meetings, saying they could lead to violence and damage to property.

It also said it would bar 27 activists from the meetings because they had been previously involved in "disruptive activities" including participating in anti-globalization protests that had turned violent in Seattle, Italy and Mexico.

The World Bank and IMF have lodged an official protest with Singaporean authorities, asking that the campaigners, who were accredited to attend the annual meetings, be allowed into the country.

Wolfowitz on Friday strongly criticized the Singapore government's barring of the activists, calling it "unacceptable."

Quoted from: BusinessWeek

Looks like everybody not happy with the "everything-also-ban" Singapore.

But hor, you want protest dont come Singapore la. We're highly laidback and very "geng" with money de. You anyhow protest protest then spoil our buildings and stuff, we so kiasu, lose money sure kb u like hell one lor. So you see gahmen say no protest is to protect our benefits mah. You all international ppl come singapre protest, singapore so small scully all come we go kena sunk by Singapore Big Sea. How? You lift us up meh.

So arh, gahmen say what you do what, dont kaypoh, this time not happy come Asia for IMF meetings, then next time go back Washington la. Otherwise, you not happy gahmen not happy our lives wont be happy la. Singaporeans also mus see gahmen's face colour mah. Liddat you come and see this "global city" then say not so globalised, not so liberalised, not so democratic, we also nothing to say.

So hor, guai guai for 1 time dont protest la. Like 5 years nvr protest will die liddat. Just to prove that we're starting to globalise, we have to chiak kan tang to pose for 4million smiles welcome you. You think we really so happy arh. Host this host that and disrupt our lives with the gurkha outside city hall. Sometimes I really wanna go out, "Wah seh u stand so long here kena pay how much?". Got chao duo CCTV summore. Now you will end up worse than tur kwa lemme tell u.

So don't anyhow protest la. Relax relax.

emo != emotional person @ 4:23 p.m. on 11 September 2006

Hmmm... I need to correct some blur people out there. Please avoid using the slang "emo" excessively especially with the mentality that emo = emotional. Yeah yeah, for god's sake, no one says "Hey you cry too much, what an emo?" wodefo?[note: translation from omg, widely used like wtf] That's stupid.
Wikipedia : Emo

Emo is a slang term used to describe a range of fashion styles and attitudes somewhat affiliated with emo music and its related scenes.

obtained from answers.com

Yes yes, i acknowledge that wikipedia does not have a good backing from professionals to say that it is FULL proof.

Meaning materials obtained from wikipedia may not be true la. However, it does seem like nonsense hearing 4 people say that "if one person cry too much he/she is emo". I went like wodefo ok -_-

I mean, slangs yes they are often generalised but at least look it up somewhere before you anyhow use ok? Otherwise you will end up like that longkang guy anyhow wtfk**b**b. I think that would be excessive and ridiculous.

This post is not meant to target those who have previously used the 'emo' word wrongly. Please do start understanding it, not use it widely without understanding.

I like a tinge of emo. Really their fashion hairstyles are quite cool and can be found quite commonly in singapore. But colouring eyes black and stuff, well, not my taste =P

Here's a little pic i came across months ago online about emo beatdown. I found the hairstyles more interesting than the beatdown though.

Taiwan's Chen Says He Will Survive Setbacks Amid Demonstration
By George Hsu [Bloomberg.com]

Sept. 10 (Bloomberg) -- Taiwan President Chen Shui-bian said he will stay in power amid "setbacks and difficulties,'' as an indefinite protest being staged outside his Taipei office against his leadership entered a second day.

We shall see.

I dont really mind putting in an entire week of pocket money to bet that if he's still IN power after the demonstration, he's IN for the crimes ;)

Again, we shall see.

Maybe I don't need it afterall @ 4:22 p.m. on 09 September 2006

Haiz... I was wondering, whether to get myself a snare. Cos i shuang.

Normal snares aren't expensive. A lot cheaper than Philharmonic/Concert snares, lower sound quality and of course, harder to maintain.

I thought i set my eyes on Pearl's FireCracker Snare Drum (Steel) [Model: FCS-1250] retailed by SweeLee. It isn't that expensive. I don't know about the sound quality and stuff. Havent even tried to go down to sweelee to test it out.

At quite a cheap rate of S$148, meaning i already got the money, and maybe a cheap snare stand at $90, I get quite a decent drum to play on at home.

It's quite a pain though. To wonder how much i'll practise at home because we know the sound will be sonorous. That means neighbours will complain.

Of course those money i saved up meant for my Zen Vision M. But AGAIN, I was contemplating whether I really needed a mp3 player. It would probably be handy while i'm on the bus. However, I cant sleep with music, I cant bear the thickness of the zen or even ipod in my pockets. Plus, i've already gotten used to not having any music outside of home and band.

You see, you hate it when you think things through and you suddenly find that, "Maybe I don't need it afterall."

plan ahead and rest well @ 4:21 p.m. on 06 September 2006

It is sad. My brain has opined that studying 3 weeks before examinations is not good for both my brain and braun. Nor musicality.

Therefore, I have declared that the week holiday shall be a real holiday, despite the fact that I have commitments on all days except tomorrow. Yet tomorrow is tuition day.

Looks like I shall not burden my brains with excessive information at this point of time or it will suffer leakages.

For those who have the stamina to start now and run your way towards EOYs 4 weeks later, congratulations. You're good. For those like me, relax and gear up later. For I am not stupid to start running now only to faint later.

the crash @ 4:21 p.m. on 05 September 2006

Plane crash, you're a doctor that can save 5 people out of 10. Your decision has to be made in 5 minutes.

1) Pathologist on the verge of a cure for cancer
2)A widower with six children.
3)A 40-year old prominent minister with strong opinions against racism and meritocracy
4) A 25-year old homosexual singer who campaigned strongly for the AIDS cause.
5)A world famous pianist
6) An 18-year old boy with Down Syndrome
7) A convicted murderer en-route to donating a kidney and a heart.
8) An unmarried pregnant teenager
9) An 8 year-old prodigy who recently got a place at the prestigious Harvard University.
10) Your best friend who smokes

Think about it. I'll reserve my comments for next time when i have the time.

steve irwin @ 4:21 p.m. on 04 September 2006

I don't know how contradictive this will get as Iran refuses to halt its nuclear programmes while telling our dear Kofi Annan[Secretary General UN], that it wants to continue its Nuclear program talks.

But well, that aside, there's one more adventurer that got killed.

The quirky Australian naturalist Steve Irwin, who gained worldwide fame as TV's khaki-clad Crocodile Hunter, died today after a stingray barb pierced his chest while he was diving.

The freak accident happened while Mr Irwin, 44, was filming an underwater documentary off Port Douglas on the far north east coast of Australia, according to witnesses and emergency officials.

He was stung at about 11am (0100 GMT), according to a statement by his wildlife park Australia Zoo. The crew on the naturalist's boat, Croc One, called emergency services in the nearest city, Cairns, and tried to resuscitate him en route to nearby Low Isle to meet a rescue helicopter.

Article obtained from: Guardian Unlimited
Courtesy of Ronald's and Clarence's msn nick.

Are you mourning? But I guess that's the risk of his job and hobby. Afterall risk takers aren't easy to find. You need to have a lot of courage, dare and even confidence.

And I don't think anyone wants to die at the age of 44 with a sting. From marine creatures that you love. A stingray.

no $$$ then sad lor @ 4:20 p.m. on 03 September 2006

I am now completely fed up so thou shalt not disturb me.

It looks like, half the post i typed out was erased because mozilla firefox HAD to shut down on me. So, it looks like i will have to repeat my post. It's not gonna be as thorough as i 1st did it... That's what happens when people get fed up.

Going to comex fair, is more like a chore...

1st, you get a huge carpark with EVEN more cars that made you get stuck in a car for an hour. Because your sis drives.

2nd, you get yourself laid with more burden with everything you set your eyes on above the $500 pricing.

Last but not least, you go home with a heavy set of speakers that your brother bought and a pack of 100 CDRs because you ran out of them.

So obviously you go there then come back sian half right...

But nevertheless, some of the stuff there are indeed very attractive.

My ideal MP3 player- Creative Zen Vision M, 60G going at only 599, is the retail price of what used to be the 30G.

Except for the fact that its thickness is 2.2cm, which is 4 times compared to iPod, its functions are on common basis, if not better than the iPod.

But seriously, the biggest deal in the comex fair are the HD LCD tvs on sale. They cut a fair bit out of it. Lovely, but again, all 4 digit numbers.

FYI, Thinkpad T60, seems to be better than my cpu, with a 2.0GHz Centrino dual processor, and i wonder how they squeeze in 100G hard drive and promises an upgrade to 2G ram? Insane. I could play warcraft on it with minimal lag. Not to say that T43 series already provide a platform to that. But it's running on the high end of a $3,399.

And the digital SLR from Pentax looks very attractive too. That IS if i get a Creative Zen Vision M 60G, then i'll find it fun to take unlimited pictures with its auto-exposure. That INCLUDES stars. Not like SG sky has nething much though.

Not to mention the the JVC camcorder.

Ok -_- I had enough indulging in them...

But a few laughable stuff at the Comex Fair that made everything quite interesting.

A few kids picking up all the brochures and trying to distribute them caught my attention. I thought singapore forbids child labour? AND FREE CHILD LABOUR? We need to reflect =.=

A few adults trying on iGallop and the new OTO Flabelos. Interesting seeing them vibrating like nonsense.

However, the appeals still lie on those ladies in tight fitting shirts and skirts, having a uZap around their waists. Hmmm, I do remember a few other ladies who're at Samsung's HD tv area. Well, good cleavages, with the chinese saying of 该凸的地方凸,该翘的地方翘. It was great eye candy but i guess their target audience is at lao chi ko pek. Not me lor...

But /me has to agree that it is a good attraction to your products. That's how china has been working with all the cars and ladies. Except down there you get the real treatment sometimes. Relatively disgusted at the thought of it? Sorry =P

So now my aim list includes a Creative Zen Vision M, a Sony Ericsson k800i[bound to change anytime] and follow on with things that i could dream getting: a digital SLR camera, A camcorder. And maybe a few years later, a Lenovo Thinkpad.
